Fair usage
The numbers, not the adjectives.
A fair-use policy without figures cannot be relied on by you or enforced by us. So here are ours: what you get at full speed, what happens after it, and the single point at which we would decline to renew.

Your full-speed allowance
Each plan includes an allowance of data at full speed in every term. Once you pass it, your data keeps working at a reduced speed for the remainder of that term. Nothing is cut off, and there is no overage charge — ever.
Full speed, per term
30 GB
Applies to both Essential and Pro. On Pro this is delivered at full 4G/5G; on Essential at an optimised speed suited to maps, messaging and browsing.
The allowance resets at the start of each new term. A term begins when your eSIM first attaches to a partner network abroad, not at the moment of purchase.
Data used in high-cost regions
Wholesale data costs vary enormously between countries — in some markets it is many times what it costs elsewhere. Rather than quietly excluding those countries or pricing every plan for the worst case, data used in the regions below counts at 2× toward your full-speed allowance.
High-cost multiplier
2×
Applies in: JP, KR, CA, MX, BR, CL, AR, BS, BB, JM, TT, DO, IS, MV, FJ.
You are never charged extra. The only effect is that the full-speed portion of your term is used up faster in those places.
The ceiling
Unlimited plans work because typical use is nothing like extreme use. A very small number of connections consume more in a term than the wholesale economics of a flat-rate plan can support.
Fair-use ceiling, per term
100 GB
Above this, we may decline to renew the subscription. We will always tell you first, and the term you have already paid for is never interrupted.
To be exact about what happens: we email you as you approach the ceiling, and again if you pass it. If usage stays above it, we may decline to renew — which means your current term runs out normally and simply is not renewed. We do not cut off data you have paid for.
What we can and cannot do
Most fair-use policies claim a right to “suspend, restrict or terminate” service at any time. We are not going to claim powers we do not have. Here is precisely what is and is not possible on our network:
The practical consequence is reassuring: once you have paid for a term, that term is yours. The only lever we hold is whether to sell you the next one.
Reasonable use
These plans are sold for personal use by a traveller on a phone or hotspot. They are not sold as:
- a permanent replacement for fixed home or office broadband;
- a connection for continuous unattended machine traffic, servers or bulk automation;
- a resale or redistribution service; or
- a connection for anything unlawful.
Tethering to a laptop or tablet on a trip is normal use and explicitly included on both plans.
If we ever get this wrong
If you think a fair-use decision on your account was mistaken, reply to any message we sent you or email support@romiomobile.com. A person will look at it.
These figures may change for future terms as our network costs change. Any change applies to terms purchased after it is published — never retroactively to one you have already paid for. See also our terms and refund policy.
