Setup guide
Installing your eSIM.
It takes about thirty seconds. Do it at home over wifi, before you fly — not at the gate, and not after you land.
The one rule that trips everyone up
You cannot scan the QR code with the same phone that will use the eSIM. The camera and the screen are on the same device. Either open the install link directly on that phone, or display the QR on a laptop or second screen and scan it.
Every install email we send leads with a one-tap install button for exactly this reason — on the phone that will hold the eSIM, that button is the easiest route.
On iPhone
- Connect to wifi.
- Open your Romio install link on the iPhone itself and tap Install eSIM.
- Follow the prompts. Label it “Romio” so you can find it later.
- Leave your usual SIM as the default line for calls and texts, and set Romio as the line for mobile data.
- Turn on Data Roaming for the Romio line. This is required and costs nothing extra.
On Android
- Connect to wifi.
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (wording varies slightly by manufacturer).
- Scan the QR from another screen, or choose to enter details manually.
- Set Romio as the line for mobile data and enable roaming on it.
If scanning fails, use the manual option with the SM-DP+ address and activation code shown on your install page.
When does my plan actually start?
Installing does not start the clock. Days only begin counting once the eSIM picks up a network overseas, so you can install weeks ahead without losing a single one.
If something goes wrong
Check three things in order: Data Roaming is on for the Romio line, Romio is selected for mobile data, and the line is enabled. Then toggle flight mode on and off to force a fresh network search. If it still fails, restart the phone — carrier settings often only load after a restart.
Still stuck?
Email support@romiomobile.com. Include your order reference and what you have already tried, and a person will pick it up. If you are mid-trip, say so — those go to the front of the queue.
